Brand colour in neon for Flying Fish
With a beer brand the challenge is not the shape but the colour: a brand colour on paper is a very different thing from that same colour as light.
A sign that had to work not just on a wall but in front of a lens. That puts very different demands on the LEDs than an ordinary commission.
The brief was short: something in neon that would appear in a campaign video. That sounds like an ordinary sign, but it is not. The moment a camera is involved, two things start to matter that never show up on a wall.
First, flicker. Many cheap drivers pulse the LEDs at a rate your eye averages out but a sensor does not. On footage you get banding, or a sign that pulses. Second, colour: neon that looks lovely to the eye can clip to a white blob on a sensor.
We picked flex with a lower output than usual and made up for it with a longer bent run. Same amount of light coming off the sign, less light per centimetre — on camera that is the difference between a readable letter and a white streak.
The driver became a flicker-free constant-current type instead of pulse width. And we put the sign under a camera in the workshop before it shipped, to see what the sensor made of it.
The sign made it into the campaign without any grading work. No banding, no blown-out letters, and the colour on screen matched the colour in the room.
Which is why we now ask where a sign will hang and whether it will be filmed. Two sentences up front save a lot of disappointment later.

At a festival a neon sign is not decoration but equipment: it has to handle weather, transport, and thousands of people leaning on it for a photo.
Not a partnership, not a reseller, not a second company: it is the same business. The same workshop in Heusden-Zolder, the same bending table, the same people on the phone and the same signs.
We keep two sites because a Dutch customer asks different questions than a Belgian one — about iDEAL, about shipping across the border, about permits from their own council. Those answers belong where you go looking for them.
Send over your idea and you will have a price and a design today. Say yes and it is at your door in three working days.
We run a separate site for Belgium, so you get the right delivery times, payment methods and terms straight away.
